Getting to Kyrgyzstan
|
Flights
Probably the most
expensive and time-consuming part of your trip will be the air tickets.
Kyrgyzstan is not a high air-traffic destination, so your flight options
may be a bit limited, not to mention slightly pricy. Most people fly into Bishkek via Baku
(Azerbaijan), Istanbul (Turkey), or Moscow (Russia). Probably your best
bet is to contact travel agencies (plural--it's always better to shop
around) that specialize in Central Asian travel; another option is to
contact an airlines directly and see if they have any available
discounts or special offers.
Airlines servicing Kyrgyzstan include the following:
Please note that some countries require a transit visa, particularly
those of the former Soviet Union. Please contact your local
consulate or travel agent for more information.
If you are under 26 and/or are a student or teacher, you may qualify
for a youth / student / teacher discount. Ask your travel agent,
or contact your local
STA Travel,
who specialize in youth travel.
Visas
All visitors to Kyrgyzstan (with the exception of citizens of some countries including CIS) require a visa. Most Kyrgyz consulates will grant visas for one month (if you wish to stay longer, visa extensions can be arranged from Bishkek) and generally cost $30-$60, but will cost substantially more for rush processing. Consulates generally require:
a completed application form
your passport
one passport-sized photograph
a letter of invitation from visiting country
Nationals of
most countries (including Canada, the US, and
most Western European countries) do not require a letter of
invitation for a one-month tourist visas.

Consulate exists, the Russian and Kazakh Consulate will also handle visa requests
